In the recent podcast episode, I talked about these times of transition in our lives. It seemed to resonate, so I decided to share some Scripture passages that are helpful to me. I hope they are to you as well.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fail, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his land.

Psalm 27:23-24

Several things stand out to me in this passage. First of all is the emphasis on the “steps,” not the entire path. If we focus on the whole path, we’ll get overwhelmed (or too proud) and not do anything. God gives enough light to see the next step.

Secondly, I love the promise that God holds us with His hand and that failure is not the end. Even if we do take a wrong step, make a mistake, or outright fail, God is there to help us.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:33-34

This passage does not mean that we should not plan for the future. It just means that we can’t get ourselves worried about it. The last phrase means that there are enough problems to tackle today that it is a waste to worry about the problems that haven’t even happened yet.

How can we do this? Seek God first. He’s the One that will help us get our priorities straight.
