In a previous post, I talked about habits and how to change them. This post continues that same thought. Here, I’m sharing some helpful quotes from Stephen Covey’s book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” If you would like to get this book, get it here.

“A habit is the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire” – Stephen Covey

“Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions.” (p. 71)

“We begin to realize that if we wanted to change the situation, we first had to change ourselves. And to change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions.” (p. 18)

“Our paradigms, correct or incorrect, are the sources of our attitudes and behaviors, and ultimately our relationships with others.” (p. 30)

“For our purposes, we will define a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire.” (p. 47)

  • Knowledge – the what to do and the why
  • Skill – the how to
  • Desire – the want to

“Take an inside-out approach, and read with the purpose in mind of sharing or discussing what you learn with someone else within 48 hours after you learn it.” (p. 60)

This last quote is one of the reasons for this post. I’m working on changing my own habits, and I want to share with you what I find helpful.

I’m thinking about starting an e-mail-based study of “The 7 Habits”. If you would be interested, fill out this form:
