Kent Sanders has written a manifesto for artists: “Yesterday, Today, Forever: an artist’s manifesto.” Kent was a guest on episode 9 of the podcast (sharing some things about Evernote), and has been mentioned several times since.

An artist is more than a painter or musician. An artist is someone that creates something. In his book, “The Icarus Deception,” Seth Godin promotes the fact that we all, in some way, are artists. Kent shares the same view.

Kent’s manifesto is short and simple, but has a lot packed into it. A great part of the book (at the part that jumped out at me) is that we need to face fear and failure.

Here’s a couple quotes:

  • My “Someday I’m going to . . .” turned into “When I was your age . . .” Life became safe. Comfortable. Predictable. Boring.
  • Most of all, I’m afraid that everyone will wake up and realize what I’ve known all along: I’m way in over my head and don’t have a clue what I’m doing.
  • Today I choose to believe the best about myself while acknowledging the failures of the past and learning from them.

He is also offering some free bonuses with the manifesto (instructions on getting these included at the end of the manifesto):

  • An audio version of this manifesto.
  • A personal application guide to help you reflect on the ideas in the manifesto.
  • A free 5-song EP titled Journeyman. This is reflective guitar music he created especially to encourage you on your journey.
