I’d like to share this video from Chris LoCurto. He has started to share some thoughts via video, and this one fits in perfectly with what we have been covering on the podcast.
He was asked to finish the statement: “To be successful in business…”
His answer was clear and simple: “You have to understand that your business is what you do, not who you are.”
We need to understand that while we are striving to do work we love, the work doesn’t have to define us. We don’t become what we do. We tend to classify ourselves (and others) by what we do:
- “I’m an accountant.”
- “I’m a police officer.”
- “I’m a factory worker.”
- “I’m a …”
Is that really what defines who you are? No, these describe what you do. Yes, when you do something that you love – something that you’re passionate about – there is more of a blurring between the two. But there is still a separation.
For me, I need to remind myself that I am a husband and father. I do factory work. I do web design.
If you haven’t already, watch the video above.
